Why not bring a class of children to the only intact medieval style castle in the UK. Incorporate a tour of the castle along with a falconry display into a truly memorable experience for all the children. As they enter over the moat and under the portcullis, the true magnificence of the castle welcomes them. With the chapel, coach house and stables there at the entrance, the tour really begins at the bird of prey collection. After a brief introduction to all of our birds, both weathering on their perches on the lawn and the owls in their aviaries, that's when the children get chance to see the birds in action. While the children sit out on the main lawn, the falconers offer a running commentary while the birds are flying over the heads of the excited children. The display comprises of 4 to 5 different bird of prey species, ranging through owls, hawks, falcons, kites and vultures. We then show them the splendour of one of the large eagles as we then lead the children down to the flying arena where they can don a glove and have a go at flying one of the birds for themselves. All through the display, the commentary is both educational and entertaining as we cover a lot of key stage points and curriculum topics.
This is then followed by a tour of the castle and chance to see the Great Hall, The Drawing room and Library, the Wine Cellar and many more of the castle features.
The whole package lasts about 2 – 2 ½ hours. We can provide a room for lunch or snacks and school packs are available on request.
