Fairytale Party at Peckforton Castle for Princess Tess

Tess Sullivan17th January 2012, Tarporley, Cheshire
Terminally-ill four year old Tess Sullivan will be celebrating her fifth birthday with a dream Princess Party, organised by her family, on Sunday 29th January at leading Cheshire hotel, wedding, conference and events venue, Peckforton Castle.

Tess, is one of 50 infants in the world to have Alexander disease, a degenerative disorder affecting the central nervous system. Due to the severity of her incurable condition, parents Helen and Steve Sullivan are uncertain how many birthdays Tess will celebrate, as the life expectancy of the disease is between 5 and 10 years. Tess will be turning 5 this month. Lancashire born Tess lives with her family in Huncoat and they have dreamed of a magical Princess birthday party as she turns five. Helen and Steve mentioned this dream to family friend Ged Hawes, who sent out a plea on Twitter to any castles in the North West who would be willing to host this very special party.

Their plea was answered by the events team at Peckforton Castle, Tarporley, Cheshire who agreed to host the party in their spectacular castle and contribute food, drinks and decoration. This special event will Tess the magical day her family has dreamed of and provide the perfect opportunity to thank family, friends and supporters who have helped raise money and awareness about Tess's condition.

Helen, a 32 year old teacher said, "We were overwhelmed by the generosity of the team at Peckforton Castle. It is the most stunning venue and the perfect place to hold a Princess party for our special girl. It continues to amaze us how kind and supportive people can be - even people who have never met Tess. The day is going to be magical and we are thrilled to be able to invite everyone who has helped Tess over the last few years to something so special to thank them and to give them a precious and lasting memory of Tess."

Following her diagnosis in 2009 brave Tess underwent surgery to remove parts of her skull after she was diagnosed with pressure to the brain. Tess now attends White Ash Special School in Oswaldtwistle and it is there that her physiotherapy, occupational and speech therapy actually take place. Tess also regularly visits a neurologist, who is an expert on Alexander disease, a geneticist and a neurosurgeon, who checks on her skull and that pressure on her brain is still being released.

Helen added, "There are so many people we will need to thank after the party for their generosity. We don't want to spoil the fun for our guests but there will be entertainment, fun and plenty of surprises on the day. We cannot wait!'

Peckforton Castle Reacts to Plea Hearing

5th December 2011, Tarporley, Cheshire
Leading Cheshire hotel, wedding, conference and events venue is reacting to the admission of guilt by bridegroom, Max Kaye, to starting a fire in one of the Castle's main function rooms in the early hours of 19th June 2011.

Managing Director, Chris Naylor, is feeling a sense of relief following Kay's plea in Chester Crown Court on Friday December 3rd 2011. "Myself, my family, our staff, guests and clients can now move forward. Onwards and upwards and business as usual has been very much our mottos since the day after the arson attack and it is now even more possible without the cause lingering in the back of our minds. Many of the staff are particularly thankful that they don't have to go through the process of providing evidence at a gruelling and emotional court case. We could be telling a very different story today if it wasn't for the three young men who risked their lives to evacuate the entire building, thank you again to Paul Heaney, Daniel Naylor and Simon Oxley for their life saving actions, I know this news will be particularly welcome by them. We can now concentrate on the huge relaunch party we are planning in February and the reopening of 4 of the damaged bedrooms, the Long Gallery bar and Library function room this Friday (9th December 2011). The £6 million insurance money has been instrumental in assisting the speed and quality of the rebuilding works – over £3 million went on building costs alone - I'd like to say a special thanks to RSA for being so helpful throughout this process."

The addition of the finished bedrooms, this Friday, will mean the hotel can host more leisure guests as well as allowing evening weddings and functions (numbers permitting) to move back inside the Castle.

The Castle's largest function room, the Drawing Room – where the fire was initially started, and remaining 10 bedrooms will be relaunched in February next year with a huge celebration planned with celebrity acts and attendees.

Chris Naylor encourages the public to visit the Castle to see how little disturbance the building work is causing, "We are rebuilding our business step by step, support from our guests and community is vital and we encourage everyone to visit the Castle for lunch, dinner, a spa treatment and take advantage of all that we have to offer."

Photo opportunities of the restored bedrooms and function areas are available.

Peckforton Castle - Conference Venue of the Year despite fire

26th July 2011
Leading Cheshire hotel, wedding, conference and events venue is in the running for the HBAA's Conference Venue of the Year award despite the recent fire that saw 25% of the Castle and a main conference room severely damaged.

The Castle's owners and staff are celebrating the nomination and believe a win will help them to rebuild part of the business following a suspected arson attack last month. It is believed that the Castle has already received a number of votes from previous, present and future clients and guests. Managing Director, Chris Naylor, comments. "The support we have already received has been nothing short of overwhelming and I hope that all clients and visitors will help us demonstrate what a magnificent venue we are by voting for us in the HBAA awards".

HBAA is the trade association that represents the collective interest of the parties involved in the procurement and management of conference, meetings and accommodation in the UK and internationally.

Now in their fourth year, the HBAA Awards are regarded as a benchmark of best practice within the association, whose buying power in meetings, events and accommodation exceeds £2.3bn.

Venue of the Year is a new category that has been added this year to recognise hotels, venues and apartment services that excel in their day to day operation.

Peckforton Castle has now begun to rebuild the damaged East Wing of the Castle into a bigger and better version of its previous self. Initial reconstruction work started on the 11th July 2011, with the main stage of work commencing 15th August 2011 and the final stage planned for December 2011.

Chris Naylor is keen to clarify that guest's visits to the venue will not be disrupted. "All the building work is internal and confined to one wing of the Castle. Liability admitted for Peckforton's Fire

11th July 2011
Leading Cheshire hotel, wedding, conference and events venue is able to start extensive reconstruction work now that liability has been admitted by insurance providers, Royal Sun Alliance, after a fire that ravaged the East Wing of the Castle.

Liability for the fire was admitted by insurance providers, RSA, in a meeting with the Castle's owners on the 4th July 2011. The decision follows a fire that broke out in the Castle's main function room in the early hours of 18th June 2011after a suspected arson attack. Managing Director, Chris Naylor, comments on the excellent service delivered by Royal Sun Alliance "We are so please we chose to work with RSA, they have been absolutely fantastic, their service is second to none".

The decision means Peckforton Castle can now begin rebuilding the East Wing of the Castle into a bigger and better version of its previous self. Initial reconstruction work will start as of this week, the week commencing 11th July 2011, with the main stage of work commencing 15th August 2011 and the final stage planned for December 2011.

The first stage will see most of the areas stripped and removed including all plaster, ceilings and floorboards and will take approximately 5 weeks complete. Once the area has been thoroughly cleaned work can begin on rebuilding and refurbishing the Castle's stunning Long Gallery Bar, Library function room and 10 damaged bedrooms. The final stage will see the Castle's beautiful Drawing Room restored to its former glory, the remaining bedrooms refurbished and the accounts office rebuilt. With all plans now in place it is predicted that works will be complete by February next year and to mark the reopening the Naylor family are already planning another of their famous parties. They also plan to ensure guests will be as unaffected by building work as possible.

The Peckforton Castle Wedding Coordinators are working alongside the Naylor family speaking to each bride and groom due to be married at the Castle whilst reconstruction work is taking place. Each wedding is being approached on a case by case basis and the family are sure all who are affected won't be disappointed. Chris Naylor comments, "It is not the day they originally planned so we understand there may be some disappointment for our wedding couples but we hope the option to use the marquee with the Castle as a stunning backdrop will more than compensate for this. We are working harder than ever to ensure every wedding goes without a hitch and have even drafted in an extra wedding coordinator to make sure our service levels don't falter."

The temporary marquee has been received extremely well with many brides falling in love on first sight. Most couples have recognised it is the people that make the day and the service, food, wine and entertainment will not be affected. Chris Naylor comments, "We are certain we can provide an excellent day with great service and delicious food as well as work within the parameters set by our insurance company. We'd like to thank all brides who have been so supportive during this difficult time, their understanding and patience has been overwhelming and we look forward to welcoming them to the Castle and delivering a very special day."

Local Support for Peckforton Castle

27th June 2011
Leading Cheshire hotel, wedding, conference and events venue welcomes Tarporley High School back to the Castle tonight for the second consecutive year to celebrate their 6th Form Leaver's Ball.

85 6th Formers from the School will be attending the function held at Peckforton Castle and are delighted with the marquee that will host their event following the destruction of the Drawing Room in a fire that occurred at the Castle on Sunday 19th June 2011.

Peckforton Castle News update from Chris Naylor

23rd June 2011
Coming to the end of another long day at the Castle but one that has been very positive. Had great meetings but particularly with Ian Swan the Fire Service Investigator & English Heritage, they are really behind our vision & drive to get the Castle open ASAP & bigger & better. Also done a number of interviews with Newspapers & Radio. Only downside is that I was meant to be going away tomorrow with good friends to Marbella but had to cancel due to the workload!!!!

Other news is that the marquee is fully erected for any weddings/events that wanted to use the drawing room and the birds of prey are all outdoors again.

[Update: Opening now scheduled for Saturday 25th June.]

Peckforton Castle joins forces with De Vere Academy of Hospitality

18th March 2011
Leading Cheshire hotel, conference, events and wedding venue, Peckforton Castle has joined forces with the De Vere Academy of Hospitality in Wychwood Park, Crewe to offer local 16-24 year olds not in education, employment or training the chance to work in the hotel and catering industry by offering work placements in Customer Service and Professional Cookery.

The Academy, a joint venture between De Vere and The National Apprenticeship Service, is the first of its kind in the UK - a unique training initiative for any young person with aspirations for a career in hospitality. The Wychwood Park Academy opened its doors to the first group of apprentices in September 2010 with support from Cheshire East Council's Economic Recovery Task Group. Thanks to huge success, January saw the third intake of young apprentices begin their exclusive training and it is from this cohort that the trainees that started at the Castle on Monday 14th March came.

Peckforton Castle is committed to developing 2 customer service apprentices and 2 chef apprentices in the art of hospitality on 8 week and 12 week cycles respectively. Head Chef, Mark Ellis, believes the Castle is in the perfect position to do so being experts and pioneers in the industry themselves. "We were approached by De Vere to partner with them on the scheme due to our ongoing community work and our growing reputation for food excellence. We of course jumped at the chance to assist in the creation of well-prepared individuals who will ultimately be equipped to raise the standards of hospitality across the UK."

The apprentices were chosen, by De Vere, for their potential and enthusiasm rather than educational qualifications or experience. The students have been thriving on intensive internal placements and are now keen to put into the practice the abilities they have already learnt and discover new skills a plenty at Peckforton Castle.

Girl Guiding reaches new heights at Peckforton Castle

30 November 2010
On 13 November, more than 25 members of the 2nd Tarvin Brownies took Girl Guiding to new heights when they visited Peckforton Castle to claim their prize of a falconry session and lunch after winning this leading Cheshire venue's competition to find names for its two new baby owls.

The 2nd Tarvin Brownies suggested the names Baden and Powell for the new Brown Wood Owl and Great Grey Owl after the legendary Scouting movement founder and in celebration of 100 years of girl guiding.

As part of the prize, the 2nd Tarvin Brownies were treated to a tasty lunch in the 2010 Brasserie and a falconry session with falconer Danny Willan, who officially named the owls and went on to explain more about the hotel's conservation work and its 30 birds of prey, which include owls, hawks, falcons, and eagles.

Tawny Owl Emma Blain of 2nd Tarvin Brownies comments: "All brownie Guiders are named after owls so we were delighted to have been chosen as the winners of the competition. We had a wonderful time at Peckforton Castle and everyone really enjoyed learning more about the hotel's collection of birds of prey. We can't wait to return again soon."

Peckforton Castle managing director Chris Naylor adds: "All the judges thought that the 2nd Tarvin Brownies suggestion was brilliant. The names suit the owls perfectly and we were delighted to be able to teach the girls more about our birds of prey and the important conservation work we're involved with."

Extremely popular with all visitors, the hotel's birds of prey make regular appearances at weddings, corporate events and private parties. The encounter experiences, which last an hour and a half each, allow visitors to get up close and personal with the birds of prey and actually fly them for themselves.

Peckforton Castle has gift vouchers available which can be redeemed for falconry, accommodation, food and beauty treatments at Tranquility.

Guests can attend three meetings before signing up for annual membership, which includes refreshments at each meeting, plus two gourmet dinner nights each year at Peckforton Castle.

Jessica adds: "Most of the meeting is aimed at free networking to give members the opportunity to build strong working relationships. It's at a convenient time of 6pm, which means people can come straight from work, and it's just once a month. Peckforton Castle is a great venue to come for networking and the refreshments are divine too! At each meeting members present their business opportunity to the group and there are also three short presentations from members. The group will suit small and large business."

The next Passionate About Business networking event will take place at Peckforton Castle on Monday 13 December 2010 from 6pm in the Hexagonal Room.

Peckforton Castle announces additional wedding service

10 November 2010
Couples wanting to get married at one of the UK's leading wedding venues, Peckforton Castle, can now stage their ceremony in the beautiful grounds of this stunning venue, thanks to a new permission granted by Cheshire East Council.

The council adjusted the rules to allow proceedings to be held outside after a series of requests made to the registration service.

Couples will still be required to retire to a room inside Peckforton Castle to exchange legal vows because the law requires that legally-binding words of a ceremony are spoken within a room approved for marriage or civil partnerships.

Initially the ceremonies will be offered between the months of April and October.

Peckforton Castle managing director Chris Naylor comments: "This is certainly good news for couples looking to get married at Peckforton Castle. We receive lots of requests from people who would like to hold part of their proceedings in the Castle's magnificent grounds and now we will be able to accommodate them from April through October. The change will give people greater choice and I am sure it will be popular. We are very excited about this new opportunity."

Peckforton Castle is one of the UK's most popular wedding venues hosting 180 weddings and civil partnerships each year. Flexible in its approach to the wedding market, Peckforton Castle can cater for small weddings of just a few people through to large weddings of 165 guests plus and can offer a range of stunning rooms for the exchanging of vows, the wedding breakfast and the evening party. With its own private chapel onsite, Peckforton Castle can even offer blessings after the legal ceremony has taken place. Brides can also benefit from a full bridal beauty package at the venue's beauty facility Tranquility, which opened earlier this year and is already proving to be a massive hit with brides.

Chris adds: "Peckforton Castle is possibly the best wedding venue in the UK. We can accommodate all types and sizes of weddings and civil partnerships, from large traditional Asian weddings, to themed weddings and of course, the quintessential English wedding. With such an amazing venue the possibilities are endless. Couples can literally have whatever they want, even exclusive hire of the entire Castle."

In addition to launching the new beauty treatment rooms Tranquility earlier this year, Peckforton Castle also opened a further 10 luxury en-suite rooms and the 2010 Brasserie, further enhancing its offering to all guests and non-residents.

2nd Tarvin Brownies win Peckforton Castle 'name the owl' competition

02 November 2010
The 2nd Tarvin Brownies are the proud winners of Peckforton Castle's competition to find names for two new birds of prey – a Brown Wood Owl and a Great Grey Owl – launched in September via the region's media and the hotel's popular Facebook page.

After sifting through more than 100 entries, judges settled on a suggestion from the 2nd Tarvin Brownies who proposed the names of Baden and Powell, the founder of the Scout movement, in celebration of 100 years of girl guiding and because all brownie Guiders are named after owls!

Peckforton Castle managing director Chris Naylor explains: "We thought the 2nd Tarvin Brownies suggestion was perfect as we wanted names that would suit male and female birds and something with a bit of a story behind it. The birds – a boy and a girl – are a bit older and a lot bigger now and really suit their names."

To celebrate the win, 25 2nd Tarvin Brownies will visit Peckforton Castle later this month to enjoy a tasty lunch courtesy of the 2010 Brasserie and a falconry session with head falconer Mark Birdsall, when they will meet the owls they named and learn about the hotel's conservation work with its 30 birds of prey, which include owls, hawks, falcons, and eagles.

The hotel's birds of prey are extremely popular with all visitors and make regular appearances at weddings, corporate events and private parties. The encounter experiences, which last an hour and a half each, allow visitors to get up close and personal with the birds of prey and actually fly them for themselves.
