What is Afternoon Tea?

The Tradition

A quintessentially British institution with roots stretching back to the early 1840s. Afternoon Tea is credited to Anna Maria Russell, the 7th Duchess of Bedford, who began requesting a tray of tea and light refreshments to stave off hunger between luncheon and the fashionably late dinner hour.

Quickly spread among the aristocracy and upper classes of Victorian England, Afternoon Tea evolved into an elaborate social ritual served typically between 3pm and 5pm. Traditionally, Afternoon Tea consists of three distinct elements, elegantly presented on a tiered cake stand. Savoury finger sandwiches, Freshly baked scones with clotted cream and jam, and sweet patisserie, pastries and cakes on the top tier.

Our well known and loved British tradition varies in prices. These prices vary depending on the number of guests and champagne upgrades. Our afternoon tea has two types at Peckforton Castle, Classic & Champagne.

Classic Afternoon Tea for 1 and Classic Afternoon Tea for 2 start from £29.00 to £54.00 (prices may vary).

Champagne Afternoon Tea for 1 and Champagne Afternoon tea for 2 start from £39.00 to £74.00 (prices may vary).
